It is everybody’s experience that practice is the best way to secure a firm grasp of whatever skill you want to develop: so much so for the development of practical capabilities in English and computing. The assignments and the activities suggested in this section of the book are designed to give the students some ideas on how to put in practice what they have studied during the course; however it would be ideal if the students will eventually develop their own assignments, based on their personal attitudes, interests or necessities. The
moment a student gives himself a job to carry out (in school jargon this
is called “homework”, a word with a bad reputation in the students
community), he has really learnt something. One of the basic aims of
this book is in fact to develop some interest for both English and
computing, and hopefully spur the learners to improve on what they have
studied, and ultimately to make them curious to the point that they will
want to know more about what is being treated here. The assignments are divided into four categories: Compositions, Controversial Issues, Class Projects, Projects at Home. In most cases the activities can be used as a framework for different contents, thus adjusting to the learners’ interests.
