| Just as we would recommend
for Microsoft Word, in Microsoft Excel it is important to
have a suitable array of icons available on the program's toolbar to
make your work easier and faster. Useful commands that should be present
on the toolbar include the following.
|
|
|
|
Sum and Mathematical
Function, including the Order buttons. Graph wizard. Insert and Delete rows and columns. Increase and Decrease Decimals feature.
Automatic Grid button.
|
| A toolbar like the one shown here is functional enough to carry out the most common tasks when working on a spreadsheet. Do not forget that flooding the screen with icons would be as useless as having too few. | |

As is always the case - but when talking
about program applications perjaps it is even more important - the best
way to work profitably is to understand the basics and then learn as you
proceed. Nobody can safely claim to know how to use a spreadsheet (or a
word processor for that matter) perfectly, not even those who created it,
also because hundreds of programmers worked on it and each one developed
only pieces of the whole thing. Therefore the suggestion is to set down to
it and get some work done. See how it comes and try to improve little by
little.
A hands-on approach is still the best way to work your way through computer stuff. Start by setting yourself easy goals (how about basic arithmetic, for a start?) and play a little with numbers - it might be fun, especially if you are doing something you figure out yourself. Finally, remember that application programs come with an on-line help and sometimes it... does help. |
